11 Perfect Vegetables to Grow in a Shady Garden Space 🌿
Do you have a shady corner in your yard that never seems to grow anything? That space is not wasted — it’s untapped food potential! In this video, I reveal 11 vegetables that thrive in 2–4 hours of sunlight, including a few that taste better in shade than in full sun. Even better, two of these vegetables will refuse to grow well in full sun at all!

Learn tips for summer spinach, fall chard, shade-grown lettuce, and nitrogen-fixing peas, plus secrets for growing milder, sweeter kale and herbs in lower-light areas.

I'm in zone 8a.
I thought cilantro as an herb, huh
Shade isn’t my problem. I have plenty of sun but have to deal with 2 hillsides. I do have a flat area shaded by a balcony deck an another area shaded by the house.
Zone 6, residential, trees and houses. For planting shade, I think east.
Thank you for the video ❤
I'm in zone 8. I have a wall that shades a potion of my porch at least half the day.
House is oriented 180° incorrectly. Only garden area (HOA) on north side of house.

"This video is an absolute lifesaver for my shady garden corners! Thank you so much for such scientific and heartfelt guidance. I was genuinely surprised to learn that spinach and lettuce can actually taste sweeter and crispier when grown in shade thanks to stable soil temperatures. Specifically, the insight about Swiss Chard’s resistance to bolting was a total game-changer for me. Your meticulous breakdown of each vegetable has given me so much confidence to finally green up those ignored spots in my yard. Looking forward to more high-quality content like this! 🥬🥗✨
Summarize better. ❤ 51:01 all that time and no final summary. 😊

I've been looking for ideas to plant around my elm tree.. this has given me several ideas ❤ I prefer colorful vegetables to flowers when planning a "flower bed" using flowers for corners and borders to attract pollinators and larger spaces for food .
Trees cause shade in my yard. I live in zone 6 in southeast Michigan.
Brilliant stuff

I'm refusing to watch any of these videos where they claim things related to gardening are: banned, forgotten, illegal, hidden, secret etc! Just label it as great info and it'll get watched without insulting our intelligence!

im in zone 8a. Not only do I have a tree on the side that provide shades, the house itself blocks the sun by noon. I managed to grow lemon balm, and chervil succesfully here but everything else has died out or not germinated. I realize I probably should germinate them in light before transferring to the shady area.
I have a white Buddlia, it needs cutting back now that Spring has sprung it grows about 10 feet every year if I don't cut it back, I'm in Wales, England.

I love that you include zone info but can add Canadain provinces to your maps 🇨🇦
If day length is a factor, can we cover the beds earlier in the day?
In zone 7 space is between South side of housr with overhang and neighbor's fence. I would use containers.
This is awesome info. My shade is provided by trees and a fence. I'm on zone 8a/b
