    My favorite species! Back when mine popped the cutest little [fruit](https://www.reddit.com/r/cactus/s/rFN9bJ5LDd). Heres some other interesting facts about the species.

    – The species is self-fertile
    – Has no ribs and no spines
    – Only cactus where cells can dry out pretty much completely and rehydrate when watered, similar to lichen.
    – Virtually lack stomata, has the least of any flowering plant.
    – Lacks a thickened waxy cuticle that cacti usually have.
    – The majority of water uptake happens via the fuzzy areoles that cover its surface. Not the roots.
    – Basal species of cacti (can be found very far back on the cacti family tree)

    I sowed some of these they grow so unbelievably slow and i needed a magnifying glass to even see the seedlings at first!
