    I grow prickly pear cactus 🌵 in my backyard gardening of central Florida:
    and if you decide to keep prickly pear cactus in pots, it needs a very larger pot with cactus soil, potting soil and garden soil mixed together… play sand is a treat, with gravel pebbles. But you’d need a gigantic pot to all these soil amendments in, and prefer to keep your cactus next a sunny afternoon wall for wind protection;

    So badly etiolated. I would cut that long bit off nand put the plant somewhere it can get a lot more light. Acclimate it to higher light over several days so it doesn’t burn

    Cut off the long part, it’s useless. That pad is extremely stretched and weak due to growing in inadequate light, and will never be normal. Get it off so the base can redirect its energy. Then you’ve got to fix the light situation. Prickly pears need pretty much all day full sun, windows will not cut it. Option A is to get a really strong grow light. Option B is to move it outside in summer, and supplement with the grow light in winter, or keep it cold enough to induce dormancy.
