What should I plant?

Central Illinois, fenced in area primarily used by dog to go to the bathroom. This photo was taken from inside the house, looking at the garage. Area is on north side of house. The lower left and right parts of the “Y” stepping stone path, against the house, are mostly shaded throughout the day. The upper part of the “Y” stepping stone path, alongside the garage, gets partial sun. Was thinking sweet woodruff in the lower parts, creeping thyme between the stones (with a perimeter boarder of steel edging around the exterior edge of the “Y”), and then maybe white clover in the area by the garage?
