The handyman for our apartment complex massacred these bushes, and I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do to bring them back.

I don’t have much gardening experience outside of vegetables, so if this is the wrong place to post please point me in the right direction… they used to be so pretty and green

If these were junipers or cedars you would be SOL, but luckily these are taxis (yew) so they will recover!

This is actually why I recommend taxis to rookie gardeners because they are a bit idiot proof in this way. They will look weird and ugly for a year or so but they will fill out and be able to be hedged low, I would just maybe add some compost and mulch on the top this spring? Could give them some feed too, but not necessary. Keep up with water during dry months, but these dislike sitting in water as well so don’t overdo it. That’s it, not a lot more you can do but stare at those shoots and wait for them to grow.

Some slow release fertilizer on the soil ( something like Shrub Rich), supplement with liquid fertilizer (something like Miracle Gro All Purpose)
