The latest ‘munchie run’ of former BBC and ITV presenter, Michael Barrymore, took him to Ashby’s of Salcombe garden centre where he filled his shopping trolley with more sweet treats

After receiving numerous recommendations to visit Ashby’s of Salcombe garden centre, South Devon’s new celebrity resident, Michael Barrymore did just that – before delivering his verdict on the experience. The former Strike It Lucky presenter moved to the Kingsbridge area at the beginning of March and quickly received a warm welcome from the local community.
Since his arrival, the 78-year old has been documenting his daily adventures on TikTok, taking in everything the area has to offer – from beaches, to independent shops and cafes – and embarking on his famous ‘munchie runs’. “You can do a munchie run basically anywhere,” Michael admitted as he entered Ashby’s on Sunday (March 29).
Grabbing a shopping trolley, he elaborated: “I’m doing one at my local garden centre today because the munchies just hit hard.”
First, Michael picked up a packet of Quiggin’s Kendal Mint Cake, followed by bags of Poppets Mix-Ups, RJ’s Liquorice Allsorts and Ashby’s own confectionary – Traditional Acid Drops.
He continued, adding chocolate-coated marshmallows, a bar of Ashby’s own Peanut Butter and Ashby’s Mil Chocolate Honeycomb bites to his trolley.

Michael wasn’t done there, however, as he continued to browse – grabbing a large tub of Tunnock’s Mini Caramel Wafer Biscuits, a bag of Smith’s Bacon Fries, and ‘Murder Motel’ sugar powder he spotted in a 10p bargain bin.
A bar of Kernow Chilli Chocolate followed, along with a can of berry-flavoured sparkling Omj and more drinks in the form of citrus-flavoured Lucscombe and Ben Shaw’s Dandelion & Burdock.
“That should be more than enough for me to sit down later and demolish while I play Fortnite,” Michael said as he made his way to the till.
There, he was met by two friendly members of staff who advised him to pick up a box to transport his goods to the car. As for the total of his shop? £36.03.
“Very reasonable,” Michael said, using one his catchphrases before travelling home to his excited dog, Lara.
Writing in response, one TikTok user exclaimed: “Kendal Mint Cake is an absolute underrated treat. I love it so much and rare to find in shops.”
Another agreed, saying: “I always grab a bar of Kendall Mint Cake if I’m passing. Ashby’s is a lovely garden centre.”
And a third person added: “Great shop that Ashby’s Michael. I usually drop in there when I’m delivering round Salcombe area from sunny Exeter.”
