This plant has been in the ground for so many years. Never cut back but taken care of. I cleaned out all the sticks and old wood. Did I do too much?

[Your fine.](https://www.wildflower.org/expert/show.php?id=8992&frontpage=true) Every spring I go through the same worrying about being too aggressive with salvias and skullcaps and sages, but they appreciate a good cutback and will usually reward you with a thicker foliage and more abundant blooms. It just takes them a little while to come out of winter dormancy.
