Saw this in the supermarket (UK) and couldn’t resist for £8!!

Never owned one, have a ZZ and a pilea that are doing well. Have peace lily who is so-so and learning quickly. I have a couple of grow lights and plan to give this their own dedicated one.

Couple of questions.

  1. Looking at the stems I wondered if this is one plant or two? Any ramifications of that?

  2. My pilea is in leca and does well – I would like to minimise gnats so was wondering about the feasibility of transitioning this to leca. Any tips if so?

Thanks! Would rather not kill him!

2 plants. Most will tell you to separate, but you don’t have to.

  2. It brings me so much joy whenever a new monstera parent says they’ll give it a grow light ☀️

You’ll want to repot it regardless into something chunkier, and then you can see whether it’s one or two plants underneath the soil.

Repotting into just leca is probably not the best idea. You could do a mixture of orchid bark, perlite and coconut coir and not need the traditional soil that attracts gnats, or just add an inch of gravel to the top of the pot to keep them out.
