that’s the cataphyll, which is like a sheathe that protects the emerging leaf. you’ll know you’re expecting a new leaf if the cataphyll starts turning yellowish or splits along the edge!

Omg that looks so much like my thai that just pushed out a new leaf. 🙂 But yes that’s a new leaf on the way and it probably won’t be long until you see the tip of a new leaf peeking out from the top. 🥳
