I was so excited to see Barton Springs Nursery had fox glove! I had this empty raised bed in bright/dappled shade in the back and brighter shade/partial sun in the front. I thought would be perfect for them.

Any one have experience growing them here? I get the sense they are kind of tricky in our climate.

Edit: adding that yes I am aware that they are very toxic and placed them in a spot that pets can’t get them and I’m taking my own precautions as well

Dappled shade, good soil, frequent watering…I have never had success growing them in Austin. Our summers are just too brutal. I love foxglove, hollyhocks, and gardenias; but I have succumbed to the change in our climate. I am falling in love with the native plants that do well in my yard.

I hope that you have success.

I’ve had one plant make it through a summer here. It needs water and shade, but it can be done!

No tips but if you want a native that is similar in looks, check out penstemon cobaea! Deep pink to white-ish in color. I know greensleeves had some recently.

That’s a really cool raised bed idea and probably 1/5 of the price of a Vego bed. What did you use for it?
