Can anyone tell me what type of plant this is in my meadow? I’m about to mow it down to start the new year but have quite a bit of these in my meadow. They are slightly woody stalks.

Hello fellow New Englander! Those are some pretty bad pictures, but I’m fairly confident that’s goldenrod. Did it kinda [look like this](https://growitbuildit.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/seedhead-canada-goldenrod.jpg) in the fall? And [this in the late summer](https://pithandvigor.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/showy-goldenrod-1100×1650.jpeg)?

If that doesn’t seem right I have some more guesses, but I’m pretty confident. If that’s it, it’s a wonderful native plant that will come back absolutely fine from the roots next year if you mow down the old dead stalks. It also reseeds itself well.

If you can leave the ends of the stalks a couple of inches there are insects that make nests in the hollow interior of the stalk, so great habitat.
