Probably an unusual post, but I wanted to share this Romanian Book from 1988 by Ioan V. Pop about Viruses of horticultural plants and how to combat them, based on research from the 1970s and 1980s.

   I’m a horticulture engineer and master’s student and I’ve got to say, it’s a pretty interesting book! It’s about preventing virus infections in plants and how deal with the symptoms when the plants are already infected. It’s published by a publishing house that has survived the fall of communism and is still the leading publisher of horticulture and agriculture books.

   The thing about viruses in plants is that they can’t be treated or cured. The naming convention of adding the English name next to the language of teaching is pan-European afaik, I’ve seen it done nowadays in Romania and Spain for example. When it comes to bacteria or fungi, we usually use the scientific Latin name, but virus-induced diseases are frequently caused by more than one virus. They can be related to each other or not, so it’s easier to name the disease based on the symptoms.
