i just bought her on march 4th, and she looked gorgeous. many tall big leaves, no spots or drooping or curling. looked very promising. i made the mistake of misting, but stopped that when i noticed it was making things worse. watered twice since buying her. currently sitting facing a south window

it’s stressing me out so bad i don’t know what to do and i feel horrible

Put this in a clear plastic bag, and seal immediately. This will increase the humidity.

This will warm the soil and promote regrowth.

Open the bag every couple of days for air circulation.

  2. Im assuming you’re in the northern hemisphere. If you have it in a south facing window and you’ve only watered it once in 3 weeks, it probably needs to be watered more often.

  3. Yo tengo una humidificador, humedad por encima del 60% siempre, no la riego mucho, espero a que el sustrato esté un poco seco. Le limpio las hojas una vez a la semana…

Mine is dying as well OP 😭.  People of Reddit and the internet tell me that we shouldn’t be watering with tap water (if you are), apparently they can’t handle the sediment in tap water and thus prefer distilled or filtered. I’ve switched to distilled, but haven’t noticed any difference.  Maybe try moving it further from the light source? Apparently they like bright light but can’t handle full sun for long periods of time. I hope your calathea comes back to life for you!

I have a 3 year old calathea lancifolia. It’s in a terracotta pot, with half normal houseplant soil and perlite. I pretty much never use a humidifier and i use a plant light. I probably water it like once a week or every 2 weeks and have no issues with it. I also live in Wisconsin. Maybe you’re doing too much for it or not enough, but you should try a terracotta pot imo and make sure you are cutting off dead leaves when you see them.

I also have a Stromanthe Triostar, which is similar to a Calathea I think and when the leaves start to curl like yours, I water it and it bounces back the very next day. I am a very lazy houseplant owner tbh

I’d cut off all the shriveled leaves & let it reshoot

My medallion is also very dramatic and keeps doing the same thing. It perks up with water but I think I need to water more often.
