I need some help: wasn’t getting enough light so it became super leggy – now I’m giving enough light, evidenced by the bulbous tip . Not sure what species this is – Could I cut the cacti in sections and try root hormone and repot?

This is a mammillaria. You could cut and maybe get the parts to root but at the very least the pups from the parent will live on. I would say it still needs more light than it’s getting.

JUST GIVE IT SUNLIGHT. It Will eventually be come more compact and dark green, and new growth is gonna be fine.

Chop the bulbous tip off and root it.

I’m pretty sure this is a creeping type of mammillaria. They like to grow against the ground if this is one then you’d be better off letting it do its thing.

Try using a plant stake with the ring around the top for support.
Nice rehabilitation job on your fella!

  6. 🤦‍♀️ ok, that’s enough Reddit for today.

Very interesting development, but poor thing. That elongation is caused by the artificial light which apparently is not the optimal light it wants. Natural sunlight will help it grow in a more “normal” shape, if that’s what you want.

You’re giving it more light. Still not enough light. It wants sunlight. All of it.

Lmao I love this wacky thing! If it’s not freezing where you are you need to put it outside. It needs real sunlight.
