“How Difficult”? How much skill do you have? For anyone fairly skilled at carpentry it would be easy.

I would keep shopping and find a better deal. Personally I don’t think it’s worth it to cut all that aluminum and paneling.

I got a veikous 6×12, very solid wooden build, for $800 on winter sale from big box shop. I just sealed it with Cabot oil and silicone as someone suggested, and anchored it to 6 4x4x6 treated lumber for the foundation. Going to anchor the for corners here soon once I figure out what I want.

A hail storm will cost me $150 in replacement poly panels. A hail storm with that thing will need a bank loan.

Copying the aluminum structure is where the money is at. You would need to be fairly good welder I’d imagine.

Exaco greenhouses are typically engineered to withstand 100 mph winds – how good are your engineering skills? There’s a lot more that goes into that $17,000 than just throwing up some glass and a frame that’s the right shape. There’s fact that you’re even asking “how difficult” would make me recommend against whatever you’re thinking.

Former greenhouse fabricator here…do you own the welder already, do you know how to weld aluminum?
Heat distortion will destroy the entire frame if not welded in the proper sequence.
Tbh the only reason a company can profit off this is to buy the material in bulk.

Chop saw blade $130 per blade, destroyed after a couple cuts if you don’t know what your doing.

2″ square tubing cost between $12 and 18$ per foot.

Then the glass custom ordered is going to cost thousands.

  6. You can probably do it, but it will be a lot of work and a learning process.

Aluminum can be cut with wood tools, glass is custom cut.

All the other aspects and calculations will be substantial.

  7. I made pretty much exactly that design out of polycarbonate and lumber. Did everything myself and it cost around $12k in material.

And around $15k worth of new tools…

Note I already owned a boomlift (cherry picker). If I did not I would have also had to rent… or buy… one.

I just got a quote for $18,000 for them to do it; $7700 to buy their metal skin system and do it myself; and then bought the material on Amazon and at Home Depot for $3200. And it’s 8mm instead of 6mm polycarbonate. That includes a temperature activated fan and two temperature activated arms to open the windows.

Id have to ask how much you value your time and how good you think you are?
