This willow is down on a flood plain well away from our house and near on our property line, but likely fully our neighbor’s side. It has a large decaying/dead/cracked area about 8-10’ up from the base, with a hole you can even see through near the center. The second picture is an estimation of where I believe the center of gravity for the tree mass (blue line) is above the decaying area (red blob). Our play structure for our kids is about 50’ away in the direction of the yellow arrow. When this thing falls, I’m fairly confident it will fall away from the structure and towards a flat area with nothing on it.
Given the proximity to where our kids play, I’m considering working with my neighbor to have it taken down. Even though I don’t think it’s my responsibility, I’m happy to help fund the removal and we love our neighbors so I have no concerns there.
Would you recommend having this tree taken down or let nature take its course? Would this be a challenging/expensive job given the unpredictable nature of felling this large of a decaying tree?

I’m for helping fund the removal. This is definitely a job for a professional. Don’t try to fell it with your neighbor.
