I've got an apple tree on vacation property in northern Illinois. It was damaged last fall, but I never had a chance to cut cracked branches until now. This branch is split and you can see through it. Is there anything I can do to save/repair it?
The diameter is approx the size of a large wrist.

You don’t always have to cut vertically split branches like this. I would probably recommend a reduction cut or two at the end of the branch to take weight off and allow the tree to seal. That said, all we can see is the crack.
