Anyone tried this? Is it even possible?

There are a bunch of them growing in England so if it doesn’t work it’s not the trees fault.

I grew one. It was going well till I screwed up, and I realized I forgot to give them enough water and it was too late

Well yes of course if they are true redwood seeds you can grow a tree from them, is not very complicated to germinate then

It’s possible but there are so many things that can go wrong, and the company wants you to buy another kit.

It’s worth trying since you have it already, but also check your yard and see if there is an oak/maple tree or pine tree sapling. You can learn a lot from trying to grow those also.

If i recall you have to put the seeds in the fridge for awhile. My awhile turned into months. I was a failure.

That completely depends on where you’re intending to grow it. They can be grown as indoor bonsai trees. If you intend to grow it in a pot outdoors, they’re best when not exposed to hard frost. If you want to plant it in the ground, that’s a whole other conversation, because there are a lot of considerations to keep in mind with these puppies.

Growing from seed is a gigantic pain in the ass, particularly giant cedar. In the wild, the cones don’t open until a wildfire of the right temperature takes out the undergrowth and dries out the cone, and after that, under ideal conditions, only 20% of the seeds will sprout, and even fewer reach maturity. Much easier to grow from cuttings. If you want a Sequoia, buy a sapling.

  8. I grew a giant sequoia one of these once. It stopped growing after a while and then died inexplicably even though I gave it lots of TLC. I was sad.

  9. Is got the seeds in the fridge ready to be placed outside in about five days.

This is my second go around, the first time I killed what was a happy little tree lol

It’s possible, but the germination rates are less than 5% per seed. Plus they need cold stratification. Not sure how many they give you. It’s better to just buy a little seedling if you want to grow your own. There is a good company that sells on Amazon. I can find it if you want.

To my understanding, the roots on this type of tree spread much faster than you would expect and can cause damage fairly early in the tree’s life if that’s not accounted for. This is also part of why they don’t do well in pots. If you did plant this, you would need to do so very far away from a building in my opinion.

I have tried in atleast 3 times and it did NOT work.

Put the seeds in a freezer, take it out in during non winter months to try fooling it to think it is coming to a warmer temp from winter (the fridge). I am not sure it was the quality of the seeds or something else but none of them sprouted.

You can see these particular ones at Walmart/Targets/Krogers….

I hope you have better luck than I have had

I thought you were holding some sort of tree energy drink. Goodnight Reddit.

I just bought one! I’m going for it, haha. Try it? If it is cheap enough.

I’m picturing a US suburban home with giant fucking sequoia’s launching out of the back yard.
