I got this beautiful mint monstera from my local plant shop last week, and I have a few questions about how to take care of it. It’s my first monstera! The first pic is this morning, and the second pic is the day I brought it home.

It’s good that the leaves have turned to face the window, right? It’s currently in the best lit spot in my house without actually putting it in the window sill.

How soon should I add support for it? Will it keep bending over if I leave it for now?

I’m thinking of repotting already since the soil comes all the way to the top of the nursery pot. Can I use the normal potting soil blend that I have?

TIA!

It won’t need support for a a bit but good on you for planning for that moment. Usually add it once it starts lifting itself off the ground. You need to decide if you’re going to go with a real moss pole or something solid. A real moss pole takes up space in the pot and you probably don’t want to upsize your pot at this time. Let’s the roots really fill in the current pot.

Don’t use normal potting soil, that is a good way to rot the roots if you’re not careful. Just look up aroid mix and use something premade. No need to go all crazy complicated and fancy!

Also, is this picture reflective of the best spot in the house? I can almost guarantee that it doesn’t get near enough light at all if so. This plant, especially a highly variegated ones, need bright sun, not sun from across a room. It would be better off in a window getting a lot of sun than anywhere else. If you want it somewhere else, then put a grow light on it for 12+ hours a day.

If you want to ensure you’re plant is getting enough light get an app like Photone and measure ppfd. You’ll want above 250 at minimum. It can handle much much more if acclimated.
