Just installed this LED bollard light in my backyard and put it through a little “torture test” (see the pic 😂).

Pros so far:

IP65 waterproof (held up to direct water spray)

Warm light that looks great with the trees

Super solid build, no wobble after installation

Curious:

Any tips to keep these looking clean in muddy yards?

Curious to hear your thoughts!

The reason that fixture gets covered in mud is because it is sitting in bare dirt. Rain hits the bare soil and causes splashback directly onto your light. You need to break the impact of the water and cover the soil. Put down a solid three inch layer of shredded hardwood mulch around the base right now. That absorbs the rain and traps the mud underneath. Eventually you want some creeping native groundcover planted around it because the roots will lock that loose dirt down permanently.

Right now it just looks like a pole stuck in a construction zone. Before you go hauling heavy bags of random rock or plants you need a plan for the whole bed. Take a picture of this spot and run it through the GardenDream web app. It lets you overlay different mulch types and plant layouts directly over your mud photo so you can visualize the space. It is a solid safety net to make sure you actually like the design before you start spending money. Just make sure the concrete footing stays slightly above your final grade so the metal housing does not sit in wet soil and rot out.
