My grandmother has had this house cactus for over 20 years, shes never seen anything like it and neither have I, but I was wondering if this something special or we just live under a rock. Would love to hear opinions!

i think it’s etiolated. the tops are a lot thinner than the bottom which suggests it’s reaching for sunlight. it does look kinda cool though

The tops are generally rounder rather than pinched. I kinda like it that way though.

Google says. Parodia magnifica (also known as Notocactus magnificus or balloon cactus) or a similar species like Parodia warasii.

That cactus is looking at the snow and saying

    “killl me”.

Thats amazing and also tragic… buy her a grow light, a strong grow light

Oh wow I was thinking, why’s that inside? and then I saw the outside. LOL! (I’m in S. Tx) anyway, it does need lots of light but it does look pretty cool. I wouldn’t let it get more etiolated than that, though. Maybe add a really bright grow light on it for the meantime 🙂

That’s awesome to have a plant that long! It may be looking for light, but it still looks cool, and carries lots of love. Best wishes to you both. If she wants a more natural look, you can look into a grow light, especially for winter.
