I loved my plant around the time of the first Christmas picture. Now it is overgrown and the dirt is pushing up and out of the container. I cut it back but don't really know what I'm doing (I did try watching videos) Is it too sunny? Is it a goner? Should I keep cutting? Help!

    It’s not a goner. It’s not dying. It’s thriving.

Which is no wonder in these light conditions: probably the best thing it can get indoors.
This kind of BoP (I’m guessing it’s a Strelitzia Nicolai) can reach 12 m in height outdoors. It will grow until your ceiling stops it from growing further. Fortunately, you have high ceilings 😉

As for the issue with the roots pushing up the substrate and throwing it around: it’s probably root bound. Get a bigger pot. And be prepared to see that your BoP is still larger underground than it is overground (if you disentangle the roots). Those roots are thick, sturdy and massive: they will push upwards when there isn’t any other place left to grow.

White bird of paradise grow about 40 ft. tall outdoors. You can try cutting off the outside leaves, but it’s still going to keep growing tall. I would gift it to someone else who wants it and get a plant that will stay at the size you prefer.

Think critically. How is it a goner if it’s literally growing too much for your liking?

Just time to repot it. Looks like a great healthy and happy BOP!

Oh no, my plant is growing too well!

Literally just get a bigger pot. Or give it away if you don’t like it anymore

It’s beautiful, your light and space is beautiful. Drop it in a bigger pot and fill in with soil. This plant could win gold!
