Repotted my fig today for the first time since I got it, 11 months ago. First photo is April 2025, second photo is today!

The roots were visibly circling around the top of the pot and water was just running through, so I figured it was time. I know they’re finicky, so I didn’t really separate the roots or get rid of any old soil- I just plunked it into a larger pot and filled in with new soil. After I was done, I only then googled how to repot (should have googled first, need to think before I act😅). I was reading you should always replace the soil completely, old soil isn’t good anymore, to shake out and loosen the roots, etc… absolutely none of which I did. What’s the best plan now? Leave her be? Repot again? Does any of that actually matter? This is her first repot. What should I expect? I am not a great plant parent- not quite sure how she’s survived this long. That monstera next to it I’m ready to chuck in the bin – would love any tips for that plant as well. I feel like it’s not growing or doing anything at all.

It’s not really about getting rid of the soil, I mean yeah it is useless if it’s nutrients aren’t replenished. The important part is loosening up the roots so that they know they have space to work with. Has your tree been declining? If it’s been declining I would repot (fix it) now, if it hasn’t, just watch it closely. Plants are pretty resilient.
