My mother in law gifted this to us.

It has traveled from Puerto Rico and is now living with us in the cold north east. Any tips on how I can get it to root? Is that even the correct thing to ask? MIL and SIL were able to keep theirs thriving in this climate.

Any tips will be helpful!

Also, not exactly on the friendliest talking terms with either of them at this moment which is why I haven’t asked for advice on the plant lol.

  1. Swiss cheese monstera – to propagate them and get them to grow roots leave it in water for a few weeks (can take a while), also near a window. Change the water if it gets cloudy/turbid. Once the roots grow 3-4 inches and have multiple roots budding off the main root I would then transplant to soil – otherwise they become highly dependent on growing in water is what I’ve read. Which is okay too if you want to strictly grow them in water ( but I’m not too familiar with that process).

I have this plant and you can always propagate it and make it bushy or save it if do some reason it’s failing. Mine was dying because it got to cold (the furnace died) so I cut it up, put it in water and I have a new plant!
