I need help identifying these shrublike plants. My pets gravitate to them and I want to ensure it’s safe they brush against them or interact with them (I have dogs and cats).

  1. Thuja plants (Arborvitae or Eastern White Cedar). They are considered mildly to moderately toxic to animals. But only if ingested in large quantities, brushing against it won’t cause any problems. Small nibbles are unlikely to cause severe issues, the foliage contains essential oils and a compound called **thujone** that can cause digestive distress and, in high doses, more serious health issues for pets. Plant some catnip a few metres away to keep them interested in something else.
