Let’s make a fresh batch of my diy soil mix.🪴✨

Your plants will thank you!!! This chunky mix is so easy to make and works for almost every one of my plants. (Succulents and cacti are the exception!)

Why not just use bagged potting mix? Adding perlite and orchid bark add more texture and prevent the soil from becoming compacted. Water is able to freely penetrate the soil to get to the plant’s roots and then drain excess out the bottom of the pot. This well draining soil helps you avoid your plants roots sitting in water that eventually leads to root rot.

The mix I like is:

– 2/3 organic potting mix
-1/3 perlite
-1/3 orchid bark

Linked below!

But you could also do equal measurements of these 3 ingredients! Usually just depends on the sizes of the bags and what I have on-hand!

Using air-tight container makes it easy to premix and store. If you notice moisture in your container, open the lid every so often to let it dry out!

Do you use a chunky mix? Anything else you like to add?

*Just FYI, in my video I was using a 1 cubic foot. This is double that size*

Happy planting!!

  1. Hi! Thanks for sharing! Do you use it in all plants? I've heard that this Orchid mix should be avoided as it had food plant that is specific for Orchids.

  2. Thanks for sharing! Is this for all indoor plants? And do you use this for outdoor plants as well?

  3. What is the point of this video when you don’t give the recipe you’re talking about?
    What is the recipe?

  4. I was told to use perlite, potting soil and vermicompost buuuuuuut idk someone else said perlite, potting soil and vermiculite. And now you’re talking about bark? And someone else said charcoal? Who is who and what is what ………!?

  5. Be sure to use proper protection like a mask or go outdoors when using and mixing perlite and it can be pretty dangerous for your health and lungs to breathe in!! Happy planting🌻

  6. The list shows it's 2/3 and 1/3, 1/3 for the mixture instead it is 2/4 soil and 1/4 and 1/4 other stuff

  7. This is not good mix for me. this will only be good for a year. when the bark rots it's gonna be dangerous for the roots. the perlite is not chunky enough. this may be okay for the philodendron but definitely not for alocasia and anthuriums. I used to do chunky bark, regular perlite, coco peat then after year its starts to root rot coz the bark rots quickly. What I do now is chunky coco chips, chunky perlites and regular perlites. Chunky coco chips do not rot quickly and retains moisture very well. chunky perlites and regular perlites help airflow. I also add pumice and vermiculite, gravel. I used to not be able to make 1 alocasia live. They always die on me then I found my recipe and now I have 50 alocasias mostly variegated.

  8. Thanks for shairing ❤ can you use this mix for Palms? I have a cascade palm and dont know if i use this mix or succulent/cacti mix

  9. Yea they’ll love it. They’ll love the fungus gnats and larvae that come in that Miracle Grow potting soil.
