A corn snake that was discovered in a Warwickshire garden shed has been reunited with his owner – four months after vanishing.

As previously reported, a family in Leamington got quite the ssscare this weekend when they encountered a rather unusual creature nestled on a shelf in their shed-bar.

The Turner family saw a regular Saturday take a surprising turn when they found a corn snake hanging out among some bottles of beer.

After sharing the find online, local reptile expert Mark Henderson came to the rescue, and between him, Pets at Home and KBN Reptiles, the snake was looked after.

Believing it to be an escaped pet, it was hoped the owner would come forward to claim the reptile – and this is exactly what happened.

Cheyane Compton thought her beloved pet snake Crimson was gone for good, having escaped from his enclosure four months ago.

But the pair have now been reunited, much to Cheyane’s relief. Crimson, who is just over a year old, is something of an escape and survival artist.

“In the past he’s managed to slip out inside the house,” Cheyane told CoventryLive. “This is something corn snakes can do if there’s even a tiny gap but each time we found him quickly and improved his enclosure to prevent it happening again.

“This time, despite our precautions, he somehow escaped through an open bedroom window on the top floor. It was completely unexpected.”

Fearing the worst, Cheyane and her family began to think they had sadly seen the last of little Crimson, especially with the cold snap in January which saw days of snow and ice.

“After so long, especially in the cold weather, I did start to lose hope,” she admitted. “He’s a calm and non-venomous pet, just a baby really and so loving.

“So finding out he was alive was a huge relief. I’d kept his enclosure ready just in case.”

Though gone for four months, it would seem Crimson wasn’t keen on making a huge journey.

“He was found in a neighbour’s shed just a couple of doors down, so he hadn’t travelled far – I suspect he’s been hunting mice and small birds. I’m thinking of nicknaming him the ‘Pest Control King’,” laughed Cheyane.

Crimson is back home now where he belongs, but he is not the only unique resident at animal-lover Cheyane’s home.

“I’ve always loved snakes and other exotic pets. I also have tarantulas and a scorpion – it’s a joy to care for them and our family feels complete again now that Crimson is home.”

Neighbour Matt, who found the pet while pottering around in his homemade garden bar, said: “It was a very scary experience. It is not something you expect to go and find.”
