trying to cut off your own feet to fight is the best plan of them all
1. he is already dying with no other way to escape, maybe he can escape without his feet and live or atleast take mr3 down with him , the other option is death.
2. he ends up almost dying anyway, so any plan was the better plan here

Zoro is just aware that he is in a manga, and thus has plot armour due to being part of the main cast. He knows he can't die; that is also why he took all of Luffy's pain from Kuma

I absolutely think the "fight eachother" theory would work, and it's not crazy that Zoro might think to try it after hearing Loki's perspective of fighting his father.
Difference is, his father had a strong link to imu through the mark– those two do not and I think that's gonna be the difference maker in this situation.

Hey, the gambling plans worked for Joey in Yi-go-oh. He got to the finals in duelist kingdom and semifinals in battle city on those plans.
I think Zoro's plan is to cut the tree branch the kids are on, then catch the kids before they fall
