Hey so my backyard is filled with weeds/grass that I just want to get rid of what are some methods I can use to achieve this goal. I'd like to avoid costly herbicides(I'm on a budget so any home remedies are greatly appreciated) but understand if that's the only effective way of dealing this kind of problem.

  1. Get two dogs

But seriously, cardboard or maybe a tarp for maybe a month or so.

Cardboard then mulch , might take a few months though

First, use a weed wacker to cut the weeds low to the ground so you don’t have to waste herbicides on large wheats. Second, spray the low-lying weeds with horticultural vinegar or the herbic side of your choice. Make sure you spray them on a warm sunny day.

The answer here will depend on what you want to do when the grass and weed are gone.

  4. Go to a landscape supply store and get glyosate. It kills any thing it touches. And while you are there get some RTF grass seed. That shit grows anywhere. Throw some 12/12/12 fertilizer on it.

  5. there are special people who could do this work. by the way, it’s not complicated at all

This might be the worst backyard I have ever seen. (Pirates of the Caribbean joke)

Before you get rid of all that, what are you going to do when it’s all gone? What little you have there is slowing down the erosion on the hill, but not by much. If it were me I wouldnt worry about the weeds as much as I would look into building either a retaining wall or terracing your backyard.

That being said, the cheapest and most effective way to get rid of those weeds is a sturdy back and a good shovel. Start pulling them out by hand! Also, I would maybe invest in a lawn mower for along the house and plant some native hill tolerant plants on the hill so that you dont have to mow that.
