I tried to raise a Venus fly trap awhile back, kept a little rain water at her roots, and didn’t activate her traps or feed her bugs because I read that it uses too mush energy. Eventually she grew a super long stalk and flowered. I probably should have removed it earlier, because she died afterwards 😔 Probably took a huge amount of energy to live out her life cycle but I couldn’t help but be curious to see how long and flowery the stalks got. Haven’t tried caring for carnivorous plants since then, RIP Janet 🥀

These are very specific plants. They are NOT indoor plants and need full outdoor blazing sun for hours to survive. Because they are native to bogs, they like constantly wet feet. Sit them in a bowl of rain, distilled, or RO water only. Spring, drinking, or tap water will quickly kill them. They also get all of their nutrients from critters in their traps. They must be planted in 100% sphagnum moss or another substrate that is completely devoid of nutrients for them to survive. They are also native to the Carolinas in the US and need a winter dormancy where they lose all their paddles to survive. Feed them a mealworm once a month. Otherwise do not trigger the traps.
