My shrimp jars have been looking pretty good lately and I wanted to share. They are at least 3 years old at this point and it is cool to see how much they've changed since my last post about them. The left one I tried to aquascape has matured nicely, and the other one slowly lost everything but the pearlweed. I'm now trying to trim it almost like a carpet. Other than pearl weed, stem plants have struggled in these. My bacopa and ambulia withered away over the past two years, and the rotala in the left jar is kinda hanging on, but not thriving. I think it's a lack of nutrients.

As for maintenance, bi weekly 75% water changes, trimming occasionally, and root tabs every few months. No heater, no filter, no co2. I do occasionally scrub algae off glass with a toothbrush. As you can see, there's some in the back of the pearlweed scape. I sometimes leave algae in the back so the shrimp and snails can eat it…

Both jars have had multiple clutches of shrimp that I have netted out and put in other tanks. And as you may be able to see, the Malaysian trumpet snails are thriving.

Any comments?
