HANAPEPE — Entering Hanapepe Stadium on Saturday, both the Kauai High School girls soccer team and the Island School soccer team were tied in the standings at six wins, two losses and three ties.

When the dust settled following 80 minutes of play, both teams scored a goal each, and the standings were tied at six wins, two losses, and now, four ties to force a playoff for the Kauai Interscholastic Federation girls soccer championships.

The boys soccer continues regulation play for at least another week before facing the championship round.

The Red Raider ladies had their plates full as they focused on stopping the Voyager offensive efforts through most of the game.

The Voyagers had pulled its Chloe Ayonon from defensive stopper to midfield where she could move in as a striker to compliment her sister, freshman Cruz Ayonon, who has demonstrated her leg strength through the season.

But the score forcing the playoff came off Cassidy Rogoff with about 20 minutes of playing time remaining. It clicked the Raiders’ offense, but nothing gelled and the clock ran out.

Earlier, the Red Raiders, on a break to the Voyager side of the field, broke a 0-0 stalemate late in the first half in traffic at the Voyager goalmouth when Red Raider Kyla Racca, earlier signing a letter of intent to play girls’ flag football at college, found the net.

The playoff for the KIF Championship will take place on Tuesday, starting at 4 p.m. at the Island School soccer field.
