CROSSLAKE — The Crosslake Area Garden Club will host a presentation at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, on “Hydroponic Basics” by Crow Wing County Master Gardener Dan Lee at the Crosslake Community Center, 14126 Daggett Pine Road.
There is no charge to attend the presentation.
Lee will discuss how hydroponic growing is mysterious to many and how getting started can seem daunting. Learn about this 3,000-year-old technique for growing almost anything and get a basic understanding of the various methods of hydroponic growing, including what you will need to get started.
Lee grew up on a farm in southern Minnesota where he farmed with his family before obtaining degrees in business and botany, a master of business administration and a law degree. After more than 30 years as an attorney and business executive, he has returned to his loves of science, horticulture and giving back to the community.
A resident of Crow Wing County, Lee became a master gardener in 2019. Since 2020, he has been the co-chair of the Crow Wing County Master Gardener Community Giving Project. Through this project, the master gardeners have donated over 24,000 pounds of fresh produce to food shelves throughout Crow Wing County.
Lee is also the president of the Northland Arboretum, where much of this project has taken place.
The Crosslake Area Garden Club consists of nearly 50 members. The club meets at 1 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the Crosslake Community Center. To stay current on updated events, follow the “Crosslake Area Garden Club” on Facebook.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “Pineandlakes Echo Journal.” Often, the “Pineandlakes Echo Journal” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
