I tried to trim back our beautiful Bradford pear tree, but I think I went too short. The same thing happened with three mimosa trees. Is this bad for the trees? What I am I doing wrong!?

Have you tried exposing root flare ?

Wait a few months and post the obligatory “will my flowering pear make it, is it too late?” post and find out.

Well for starters: you need a tree if you wanna trim

  5. study your tree ….in general, if you cut the top 1/3 out of a tree, it will bush out …if you cut 1/3 off the sides the tree will grow taller …..remove anything that is dead …..cut out any limbs that are too low …cut out limbs that rub or cross another

Its supposed to be 3 inches or less from the soil to the top of the pruning for optimal effectiveness

Not going further. I recommend when you get to this point switch to a stump grinder to finish the “trimming”.
