The technical name is Agapanthus, but they are called African lilies or lily of the nile as well. One of my favorite flowers!

Some or other Agapanthus variety, which is a member of the amaryllis family (Amaryllidaceae) and not a lily as the common name might imply. Agapanthus is indigenous to South Africa. The most common colours are white and blue, but you also get a whole range of purples. More recently, even a pink one! Agapanthus ‘Blush Pink’ is quite pretty.
You get ones that are quite large, and then there are also dwarf varieties available.
Super hardy, and can be a huge mission to dig out. Drought tolerant once established. They tolerate both full sun as well as shade, but they will flower more prolifically in full sun.

Their sap is an irritant to human skin and parts of them are toxic to dogs. We have a ton in our garden and have to keep the dogs inside if we work on them.

I grow them in pots here in NE Ohio and overwinter them in an attached garage, so I know they are hardy to zone 7 (the outside zone is 5b, but the garage doesn’t get as cold). They multiply readily so now I have too many of them.
