I have a mint monstera that’s been very happily growing in just sphagnum moss and is due for another repot very soon. Should I keep repotting into moss or move to soil mix? I hate the thought of disturbing the root system but not sure how feasible moss will be long term.

it’ll be hard to fill a next size up pot with the amount of moss needed. i’d switch to soil mix but be wary of the conditions the roots are accustomed to with the moss (like if you kept it more on the damp side, try to help her adjust slowly to the well draining soil by watering more often)

I think you can keep it in moss.  You might be able to just add a pole to the top and figure out a way to anchor it. As long as you’re providing nutrients. Looks like an albo BTW.

  3. I grow a Monstera Sierrana on a moss pole and a clear pot full of moss. No soil. It’s been 3 years now. I use half strength fertilizer with every watering

i stopped using moss for vigorous root growers, as the entire mass expands over time as new roots grow, displacing space-the moss will begin to compact. now i use it in poles only, and for some alocasias, like my micholitzianas

imo, better to switch to an aroid mix, if possible/practical.

having said that, i currently have a thai in a potless moss tube, loving it in sphagnum, heh-but i’m expecting a burst tube at some point in the future 😉

It looks happy. This level of root bound is usually when I start seeing my best growth, I’d leave it. It takes more water/fertilizer but totally worth it.
