I buried the front part a tiny bit, but I didn't have succulent mix, so I used perlite/soil/orchid bark instead. if I spray it every other day or so- should it work? Or did i set myself up for failure

Don’t cover it, and stop spraying it. Too much moisture will make the leaves rot. The baby plant will get all the water it needs from the leaf – they only need careful watering once they have roots and the leaf is crispy and spent.
