Winter may quiet outdoor landscapes, but inside the conservatories at Longwood Gardens, the season is anything but dormant. Winter Wonder, the garden’s annual winter showcase, invites visitors to experience lush greenery, tropical foliage, and vibrant seasonal blooms indoors from January 16 through March 22.
Winter Wonder highlights the beauty and diversity of plants that thrive under glass, offering a warm and immersive experience during the coldest months of the year. Visitors can explore expansive conservatory spaces filled with palms, flowering plants, and richly layered garden displays designed to showcase texture, color, and form throughout the winter season.
Beginning February 13, the experience expands with the introduction of bold floral designs throughout the conservatories. These large-scale arrangements emphasize creative horticulture, pairing dramatic plant combinations with striking color palettes. The designs are refreshed throughout the season, giving repeat visitors something new to discover.
From February 13 through March 8, Winter Wonder also includes Garden Glow, an evening experience that adds artistic lighting elements to the conservatory spaces. During these dates, illuminated pathways and glowing installations transform the indoor gardens after dark, offering a different perspective on the plant displays. Timed evening tickets include all-day admission, allowing guests to explore the gardens both during daylight hours and again after sunset.
Winter Wonder also aligns with Longwood Gardens’ ongoing educational programming. Throughout the season, visitors can take part in classes, workshops, and tours that focus on topics such as horticulture, photography, and creative observation. These offerings are designed to deepen engagement with the gardens and provide insight into plant care and design.

The seasonal display follows the close of A Longwood Christmas and bridges the transition into spring, giving guests a reason to visit during the quieter months of the garden calendar. By focusing on indoor collections, Winter Wonder creates a setting where plant life remains active and visually engaging despite winter conditions outside.
Winter Wonder offers a chance to slow down, explore thoughtfully designed landscapes, and enjoy the sights and scents of living gardens at a time when outdoor color is often limited. The experience highlights the role conservatories play in extending the garden season and providing year-round inspiration.
