Got this tent situation for Christmas and will be my first time starting seeds for veg garden bed this spring. I'm looking for any tips or feedback on my light set up. The unit came with a light for each shelf but I've read that it's usually not enough light? so I will only be using the top two shelves for now and I've doubled the lights. The lights also came with slide-on reflectors but these weren't included in the instructions, are these necessary?

The seed warming mats I got say don't use in combination with grow lights….is this true?

The lights wouldn’t be my main worry. Well actually it could be. Depending on what seeds you put in they will hit the lights fairly quick. Which you can raise it seems like though.

In my experience they outgrow the little seed pod things so fast just in the soil alone. After like a week there is roots coming out the bottom. Then also trying to harden the seedlings I have to throw a fan on it which then makes a mess. And at a certain point I’m like maybe I just put the tray outside when it’s nice and bring it in at night or for cold snaps.

Basically lack of wind plus lack of real sun then small soil container can be a recipe for very leggy plants that will collapse once outside in the elements. However it can work it just is more work than I care to do I guess. And I could be wrong I’m sure plenty of people here have used them to great success.

What I do is keep those larger but small containers that are left over when you buy pre grown veggies from a store. I use that as a starter instead and just bring it outside on nice days and bring it in when it’s too cold.
