I grow some avocados from seeds in water. Part of the plants' roots have more or less of this weird white growth or residue. It is porous and soft, and comes off quite easily while leaving some marks on the roots. It doesn't seem to affect the shoot growth radically, however I am not quite sure because I also suspect that it might slow down the growth.
❓Is this a known parasitic infection, a fungus? Or some kind of a symbiotic life form?
Usually I use tap water but sometimes also collected rain water. This growth shows most commonly in tap water.
The plants grow in a temp range from 13 to 22 deg Celsius (55-72 F) and receive a good amount of artificial 6500K light 12 hours a day.
The seeds are from various avocado varieties (Hass, Galil, Ettinger, Nabal).
