How should I prune this after the last frost? I have planted holly either side so it will be eventually be part of a hedge

   You can be brutal with holly. Take it down to the height of the fence and it will start bushing out to meet the newer plants. But yes, best to wait a bit before doing it.

   ETA – make sure you cut just above a branch, not in the middle of a bare patch of trunk.
