Caught my eye because there was so much fluffy stuff on the ground. I thought it might have been goose down or something at first but then I realized it was coming from the tree!
Was it coming from that tree, or did that fall onto the tree from another tree??
It really does look like cottonwood seed pods, but looks like silver beech leaves and bark.
The taller tree next to it looks like it could be cottonwood.
Or maybe I’m just too tired.

The tree is a Nothofagus. But the white fluff doesn’t come from that tree, because the fruits of Nothofagus are nuts, not wind dispersed. In your second picture, there is a tall tree on the right side of the picture with light-green leaves. This tree is probably a cottonwood poplar, and the real source of the fluff. You can also notice that the ground is more covered with the cotton in the direction of that tree.

Where are you on the planet? The white fluff resembles cottonwood, but the leaves do not.

Nothofagus for sure but the seed masses are from a neighboring plant
