My single headed Echeveria 'Moon Stone' (a Korean hybrid) became two heads! 😯

Let me by clear, this was never double headed as a younger plant and it has never had any offsets.

(See the 3rd pic with its progress from November 2023 to today)

After being a single head for about a hear it started developing an unusual center leaf formation … then to my surprise it became two heads.

I’ve been growing Echeveria for years and I’ve never seen this!

Anyone know if it a mutation or maybe a unique trait of the hybrid’s parentage?

Idk, happens occasionally depending on the breed . I’d say less likely than normal but not uncommon

Regardless of how rare, it’s beautiful and I want it!

I have a similar one that developed two heads too but I really love the coloration on yours!

  4. I have an echeveria cris that I got about 3 years ago as a single rosette that keeps dividing. After the double heads grew out enough, I behead it and split up each head. Then one of them divided, grew out, beheaded again. Now one of them is just now starting to divide again.

IME it’s not all that uncommon, especially from leaf props – leaf props frequently result in clusters of multiple heads.
