GARDEN CITY, Idaho (CBS2) — Garden City Police are warning residents about a scam involving emails that falsely use the city’s name and logo to deceive individuals into making payments or sharing financial information.
These emails may appear legitimate, often coming from addresses similar to official city accounts and seemingly signed by council members or city staff. The city emphasizes it will never request payment or sensitive information through email links for wire transfers.
Residents are urged to avoid clicking on links or providing information in suspicious emails, particularly those from .com accounts. Instead, they should verify the email’s authenticity by contacting the city directly using the phone number on the official city website. “Your awareness helps protect both you and our community from fraud,” officials said.
