Hi cactus community, I have a lil one for you.

I live in a place where growing cacti outside is not really ideal due to my geographic position. Still I wanna try to acclimate some of my boys since I found a place facing south, against a wall, and almost dry even during winter. This spot is small though so I can t put more than one plant so here is the question.

Which strain amongst those 3 would most likely be able to get threw cold temps and bad weather conditions?

-SS02
-Eileen
-Lumberjack

Thanks for sharing your experience, the winner will be sent to the ground…

I would say lumberjack. Bridgesii seem sensitive too humidity and cold. Seems like people have more success with perus or pachanois in colder and wetter climates. I don’t have any personal experience with this though.

It looks like it could be a cross between Lumberjack x Eileen to me

  3. I don’t have Eileen, but my SS02 outperforms lumberjack in my climate.
Caveat: 02 is in ground and LJ is in a pot so roots…

Another option might be to throw the top 2 contenders in that area for the winter and ground the one that looks happier come spring

Why is your climate not ideal? Cold? Wet? Cold and wet?

  5. How cold does it get? It’s not gonna be viable if it regularly gets below freezing where you’re at (32F/0C)

Many can handle temporary freezes into the low 20s or even teens, but it’s not really ideal to have that every winter.
