    Manzanita – Arctostaphylos genus

That smooth red wood is a normal part of the shrub. It’s in the blueberry and madrone family Ericaceae.

If you put your hand on the bark on a hot day it will still feel cool. Try it sometime!

That tree will peel once a year, shedding that beautiful layer. A light wood is exposed beneath and turns dark again. My property is covered in manzanita.

Never heard of a manzanita…..it’s called an Arbutus tree in BC and it’s native on our coast.

    That’s just how they are

The bigger ones are great to take nap under when it gets too hot out

    Great for parrot stands
    They can’t destroy it
