This was given to me as a gift several months ago, but I have no idea what plant it is. It seems to be wilting and I want to take better care of it.

This is a tradescantia, possibly a tradescantia nanouk or zebrina

Is it soggy and limp? Tradescantias like to hang downward so it might be leaning on purpose if the stems still feel firm.

  3. Great plant Easy to care for Full or partial sun Easy to propagate from stem cuttings

This will eventually like to cascade over the side of a hanging basket or creep along the ground. It’s a vine, not an upright plant. It only grows upright for a few inches, then over it goes from its own weight.

I’ve noticed that nanouks don’t like water on their leaves very much, so I recommend only watering the soil if possible. They’re nearly succulent, so let the soil get pretty dry between watering. Bright light is really important for variegated plants, even a couple of hours of direct sun in the morning would be ideal. They grow upright a bit, but will sort of sprawl and splay out when they get larger. Make sure the pot has drainage, they will rot in soil that stays wet.

Edit: Part of my comment got deleted, that was really weird. Make sure the pot has drainage. Soil that stays wet will rot the roots for sure, and that can look like soft, wilted stems and leaves in the beginning stages.

In addition to what everyone else said so far, you can cut off dead leaves and they will keep growing back.
