I ordered a vanilla plant cutting from the Reunion Island a few weeks ago. It took 6-7 days to travel to my place because I live in metropolitan France. It arrived in fairly decent shape, but the roots were very, very dry (of course they were after a week with no water nor substrate whatsoever).

I immediately put it in sphagnum moss and have been keeping everything damp since then, and telling myself there was no way this lil buddy could survive with these dead roots. But somehow it was not dying. Not growing either, not moving at all really, and definitely not dying.

Today, about three weeks after, I decided that the plant seemed stable enough to put it in real orchid substrate with a pole to climb on, still telling myself it was a half-dead, half-living plant. But io and behold, when I took it out of its sphagnum bed I saw those new baby roots that started growing just next to the old ones! I am in absolute awe of how resilient plants can be 🥹 Now let's hope she loves her new environment!
