

The location is Lanzarote (Canary Islands). I think the shrub is aulaga (Launaea arborescens). The yellow strings didn't seem to be either part of the shrub or man-made, and I have not been able to find any parasites or epiphytic plants that have aulaga as a host. I've seen a lot these around the island and this was the only one with these kind of strings on it.

Dodder, Cuscuta sp.
Cuscuta is an obligate parasite, member of Convulvulaceae. You’d have to check for flowers to get the species.
There are many that are rare and endangered in Canada and the USA. People tend not to care about the significance of parasites in nature.
Yes we do! It’s just that they are CEOs and Politicians and those are more prominent in our lives.
