Looking for any insights and directions as to why this one piñon at my house produces foam/bubbles when it rains? Is this indicative of a problem? If so, anything I can do to help the tree? It is in a key location at my house and provides critical shade and aesthetic benefit.

To my eye, the tree is otherwise quite healthy. We do a deep water on this tree if we experience a month of more without significant rainfall. I regularly monitor the piñons on the property for bark beetle and this one has never shown any signs of pitch tubes, etc.

Thanks in advance for any expertise y'all can offer!

Here's a video of it "foaming": https://youtube.com/shorts/BpItEB4mnp0?feature=share

  1. Guessing to be involved, and hopefully a more informed answer follows.

Bubbles means gas is escaping, and gas production would be a byproduct of either a bacterial reaction infection or insect activities. If it has a rotten stink to it, likely bacterial.
